Finished White Pine - 77" x 12" x 12" - 1999
White Pine with a wax based varnish from Brazil gives this slightly larger than life-sized statue it's warm orange glow. It is another piece crafted from 100+ year old beams taken out of a NY mansion.
Artist's Comment: A funky treatment of motherhood which I sometimes treat with a bit too much reverence maybe. Inspired by a girl I knew in high school in Texas long ago. She got knocked up without really realizing what was happening & decided to have the baby, not knowing the burden she was taking on, way too young to be a mom. All of which made her legendary among us adolescent boys - and I sure did love the heck out of her!
Of course once a subject has been transmuted into art all such considerations become meaningless.
