Japanese Rice Paper, Acrylic, Oilstick & Oil on Canvas - 72" x 42"
August, 2004 - Private Collection, Los Angeles, CA
First in a series of so-called "colorfield" face paintings. I like the concept of "color field" which was popular for a moment back in the '70s and wanted to incorporate that into a figurative work. This was the first try - not really a color field but it started out that way, the work just went off on its own.
I didn't want her too glam, like there aren't enough supermodel CUs in LA already, but maybe I went too far in the other direction. I think she's pretty ugly but somebody thought the painting had a strange beauty and bought it. I sort of see what they meant.
